Synopsis

In an alternate late-nineteenth-century world rich with steampunk aviation technology, a young orphan boy named Pazu works diligently in a small mining town, dreaming of validating his late father’s legacy by finding Laputa—a legendary, hidden floating castle in the sky. His life changes dramatically when a young girl named Sheeta floats softly down from the heavens into his arms, kept aloft by the radiant blue glow of a mysterious crystal pendant around her neck.

Sheeta is on the run from two relentless factions: Captain Dola’s rowdy gang of air pirates and a cold, clandestine government operation led by the calculating Colonel Muska. Both groups seek her family pendant, which serves as the unique key to unlocking the long-dormant, highly advanced technologies of Laputa. After a series of thrilling pursuits through underground mine shafts and airborne skirmishes, Pazu and Sheeta form a mutual alliance with Dola's air pirates to reach the floating citadel before the military forces can exploit its devastating weaponized potential.

Upon breaching the storm walls surrounding the sanctuary, they discover an overgrown paradise coexisting peacefully with ancient robotic guardians. However, Muska successfully seizes control of the fortress's central core, revealing his lineage as an offshoot of Laputian royalty and attempting to unleash its apocalyptic weapon systems to conquer the world. Facing absolute destruction, Pazu and Sheeta must rely on their enduring bond and self-sacrificing courage to invoke the ancestral spell of ruin, choosing the complete dissolution of the floating city to protect humanity from its forbidden power.
